Today we could look forward to the Spanish Grand Prix and we could also wax lyrical on the subject of the Champions League Final on Saturday evening. We could do but we’re not going to. What we are going to do is celebrate the return of the occasional study of the Hardest Sportsman.
There are of course alot of sports out there but not that many which contain the ingredients necessary to persuade the participants to abandon whatever it is they’re doing and have a pop at each other. Unlikely as it may seem, cycling has more than it’s fair share of fisticuffs so let’s see if the super-fit skinny guys can look after themselves.
Now you may wonder what these two thought was going to happen when they started pulling at each other as they were cycling along. It’s also notable for the way they had to wait patiently before resuming hostilities until all the other riders had passed through. The fight’s not too bad really considering. They both get some good shots in there and as the video helpfully points out one manages a 1980s style martial arts spinning back punch (or something). It’s probably also worth pointing out that once you’re no longer clipped to your bike it’s like walking around on ice, which doesn’t make balance and poise that easy.
This next one demonstrates the difficulty of fighting while still attached to your bike, although on this occasion the guy still clipped in ends up on top of his assailant with the bike somehow wedged between them. Unlike some other sports, helmets don’t offer too much protection from an uppercut.
These chaps may be a bit lightweight but it looks like they mean it when they have a go. They’re certainly no rugby players but there’s plenty of points for effort.
Unfortunately the world is a little short of fighting cyclists so we’ll have to base our standings on these slim pickings.
