Someone commented to me the other day as to why I don’t include actual fight sports in my ever-growing list of hardest sportsman. I could of course go in that direction but the point of this list, if there’s one at all, is to identify the sportsmen who can handle themselves and play at the top of their sports. I mean I could just dump MMA fighters in there at the top and be done with it but that’s not what I’m trying to get across.
What I’m really trying to get across god only knows but I’m going to do it anyway. So here’s the subject of this weeks post – motocross. Really a pretty physical sport, especially on the start line and on the corners, the number of crashes means the number of angry riders not on their bikes is pretty high. We’ll kick off this one with this clip from Argentina (I think) and it’s not so much a fight as an assault on a largely blameless rider. Check it out:
Not quite motocross this next one but similar enough – it’s what we refer to as speedway here in Europe and it’s another close contact racing variant. This is notable for the way in which both riders try to push each other off after the race then end up leaning on each other as they bump at tortoise speed into a barrier. Nice jab here though which rocks the helmet of the other rider right back.
I don’t normally include mobile phone captured incidents for obvious reasons but this is short one with some ‘funky’ music added. It also features one of the finest right hooks to a crash helmet you’ll ever see, which must have damaged the hands of the puncher even through protective gloves. It then deteriorates into rolling around in the mud but check it out anyway:

This last one’s not much of a fight but you can’t argue that once they’ve got their helmets off in the interview, neither of them look like they can punch their way out of a paper bag. That’s pretty much proved by the fracas here as again they end up in the dirt. Like the ‘accidental’ wheelie at the other guy though.
