Well right up front I can tell you that no-one from the world of motor-sports is going to make it anywhere near the top of my list hardest sportsmen. However there are a lot of examples of fisticuffs taking place at the ends of races, or, very occasionally during races. Motor racing is certainly an aggressive sport and I imagine that after a couple of hours of racing the tension and road rage sometimes builds up into uncontainable levels. There’s nothing spontaneous about it either, virtually all motor racing dust ups are pre-meditated in a way that would get you arrested anywhere else.
Here’s a good example from Nascar and Kevin Harwick actually announces he is going to be waiting for Greg Biffle so surprise, surprise, an incident ensues. It’s all a bit for show though really and no-one ever looked in any physical danger.
Here’s a pretty good one – after Kasey Kahne crashes in a 2004 Nascar race the pit crews somehow get into a mass brawl with each other – good stuff chaps. looks like some proper punches going in there as well.
This one’s a cracker – no idea what causes it because I don’t really understand the intricacies of ‘truck’ racing but that doesn’t spoil the action which flares up again a couple of times after it all seems to have calmed down. Also notable is the entire squadron of cops that turn up sometime later and descend on the RV. Did someone say rednecks? Not me.

It’s been all American so far and there’s not much evidence of this sort of thing form Formula One but this ones quite funny. It’s from way back in 1982 and Nelson Piquet is aggrieved about something or other. Chilean driver Salazar is the target of a few slaps and a wild kick. Superb commentary as always by Murray “Oh My Goodness!” Walker.
To conclude, not the hardest bunch and fighting in helmets is never a winner but there’s some points for effort.
